Simple, just type:
/nick your_new_nick
into the chat window and press enter.

Registering your nick is easily done in a few steps.
First start by typing the following into the chat window:
/msg NickServ REGISTER your_nick your@email.address
You will then recieve an email with steps on how to verify your account with the system.
